Experiments for acquisition of the diagnostic information found in vibrational signal

Low cost accelerometers have been characterised and shown to be suitable for hive vibration monitoring and signal conditioning electronics has been developed to work with these low cost accelerometers.

ARM cortex based microcontrollers have been programmed to continually collect vibrational data from the low cost accelerometers, perform a fast Fourier transforms (FFT) on the data and save the spectra to local storage media.

A second version of the monitoring system was developed to substantially reduce power consumption.

Sets of this monitoring equipment have been built and installed at apiaires in France, Belgium and the UK for collecting swarming data.
